South Korean capital boosts Muslim-friendly tourism
Seoul expands halal dining options and cultural events to attract visitors from Africa and the Middle East
SEOUL, South Korea (MNTV) – The South Korean capital of Seoul is ramping up efforts to attract more visitors from Africa and the Middle East by expanding halal dining options and cultural events catering to Muslim travelers.
As part of the initiative, Seoul’s city government is selecting new Salam Seoul restaurants—establishments that strictly follow Islamic dietary laws, ensuring food is prepared without pork or alcohol contamination.
Previously designated halal-certified restaurants are also undergoing reviews to maintain credibility, with inspections verifying compliance and operational status.
To assist Muslim tourists, the government will release a detailed guide listing these restaurants.
Additionally, Seoul will host the Salam Seoul Festival on September 8-9 at Gwanghwamun Square, a central landmark.
The expanded two-day event will feature cultural performances, a fashion show, and musical showcases celebrating African and Middle Eastern traditions.
The city will also recruit a new cohort of Salam Seoul Ambassadors—locals and foreigners knowledgeable about African and Middle Eastern cultures—to promote cross-cultural exchange and encourage tourism in the South Korean capital.
