Nigeria fosters unity through interfaith Ramadan gatherings
Government initiative promotes harmony among Christian and Muslim communities
ABUJA, Nigeria (MNTV) — As part of efforts to strengthen religious harmony, Nigeria has initiated interfaith gatherings during Ramadan, bringing together leaders from Christian and Muslim communities.
These events aim to promote understanding and unity in the country’s diverse society.
One such gathering was hosted by the Director General of the State Security Service (DGSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, who invited leaders from the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) and the Muslim organizations for an Iftar meal, marking the evening breaking of the Ramadan fast.
The event was attended by prominent religious figures from both faiths, who lauded the initiative as a step toward fostering mutual respect and collaboration.
Rev. Adams, a representative of the Christian Council, praised the DGSS’s efforts and encouraged other leaders to follow suit.
“Nigeria’s diverse faiths and cultures present challenges, but with proper collaboration, they can serve as an example of unity for the world,” he remarked.
Prof. Khalid Aliyu Abubakar, National Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), also commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of pragmatic leadership.
“Mr. Ajayi has made history with this effort. May Allah grant him the wisdom to navigate the complexities of nation-building,” he said.
The DGSS highlighted the importance of continued interfaith engagements, announcing plans for similar events, including one for the Christian community ahead of the Lent season.
In addition to fostering dialogue among religious leaders, the gathering reflected the spirit of Ramadan by extending support to less privileged individuals across Nigeria, emphasizing values of compassion, unity, and shared humanity.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to bridge divides and encourage peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s faith communities.
