Philippines expands madrasah support in Muslim region
The initiative aligns local government’s efforts to enhance educational access and standards in the region
MARAWI CITY, Philippines (MNTV) — Philippines’ Muslim majority Bangsamoro Autonomous Region has extended financial support to seven private madrasahs in underserved communities as part of its push for inclusive and equitable education.
The subsidies, provided by the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE), aim to ensure that all learners, regardless of socioeconomic background, have access to quality education.
Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal underscored the importance of Islamic education, stating that it plays a crucial role not only within madrasah institutions but across the broader educational landscape.
“It is essential that Islamic studies are integrated into the mainstream education system, as it can positively impact individuals and communities,” Iqbal said.
The initiative aligns with BARMM’s broader efforts to enhance educational access and standards in the region, particularly in remote and marginalized areas.
