Singapore to build new mosque, resume another project
Premier Wong says the move supports the growing Muslim community and Singapore’s commitment to religious harmony
SINGAPORE (MNTV) – Singapore will construct a new mosque in Tengah and resume the long-delayed building of another in Tampines North by 2027, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced.
Speaking at Masjid Al-Istighfar in Pasir Ris before joining around 1,000 congregants for iftar on the fourth day of Ramadan, Wong reaffirmed the government’s commitment to religious inclusivity.
He stated that Singapore’s development planning considers the needs of all faiths, including places of worship.
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) is working with government agencies to determine a suitable location for the Tengah mosque.
Meanwhile, construction of the Tampines North mosque—initially announced in 2015 but postponed due to the pandemic—will restart as the area sees a growing Muslim population.
Singapore’s mosque-building efforts are supported by a fund established in 1975, to which all working Muslims, including foreign workers and permanent residents, contribute, ensuring that every new town has a mosque.
