Israeli army kills Palestinian in Gaza as cease-fire violations continue
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli army fire in the central Gaza Strip, in the latest violation of the cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement, a medical source said.
Witnesses said Israeli forces stationed east of Deir al-Balah opened fire intentionally as an unarmed Palestinian resident was simply standing near his home in the area.
The medical source said the victim died of his wounds and his body was transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army said its forces opened fire on a Palestinian in southern Gaza.
A military statement claimed that the Palestinian “posed a threat” to its forces stationed in southern Gaza. It was not yet clear if he was killed or injured.
Nearly 48,400 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 111,000 others injured in a brutal Israeli war since October 2023. The onslaught, which left the enclave in ruins, was paused under a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold on January 19.
Despite the cease-fire, the Gaza local authorities are reporting almost daily violations by the Israeli army.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
