Damascus markets bustle as Syrians mark 1st Ramadan in post-Assad era
Markets in Damascus are bustling with shoppers as Syrians observe their first Ramadan after the fall of Bashar al Assad.
Observers say this marks a significant shift in the country’s atmosphere.
The Bab Sraijeh Bazaar, one of the oldest and most popular markets in Damascus, saw a surge in shoppers eager to stock up on food and essentials for the sacred month.
Bashar Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8.
This ended the Baath Party’s regime, which had been in power since 1963.
