2nd Turkish textile biennial to weave art, history, and sustainability
Major international event to showcase contemporary textile art in Türkiye’s historic Mediterranean sites
ALANYA, Türkiye (MNTV) – The second edition of the Turkish Textile Biennial is set to take place, bringing together art, history, and sustainability in a unique cultural experience.
The highly anticipated event is set to take place from February 22 to April 13, 2025.
According to Daily Sabah, the biennial, themed “Wave Fabric,” will transform the historic landscapes of Gazipaşa and Alanya into an open-air exhibition.
The biennial will showcase contemporary textile art in sites such as Selinus, Lamos, Syedra, Yalan Dünya Cave, Kızıl Kule, and Alanya Shipyard.
At the core of the biennial is the evocative metaphor of waves and fabric, representing the dynamic forces that shape our existence.
This theme offers a poetic exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature, highlighting how we both influence and are influenced by our surroundings.
With sustainability taking center stage in today’s world, the biennial embraces an eco-conscious perspective.
The Mediterranean has long been a cradle of textile craftsmanship, from intricate silk weaving to traditional natural dyeing techniques.
By examining the role of water resources in textile arts, the event sparks an essential dialogue on sustainability, encouraging audiences to rethink the intricate connection between fabric, nature, and responsible production.
Curated by Nihat Özdal, the biennial features international artists, including Alison Carpenter-Hughes, and offers exhibitions, workshops, performances, and panel discussions.
Hosted by the Gazipaşa District Governorate in collaboration with Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, the biennial is expected to attract artists, historians, and environmentalists alike.
