Malaysia aims to boost female presence in armed forces
Government eyes tech-driven roles to bridge gender gap in military service
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (MNTV) — Malaysia is ramping up efforts to increase women’s participation in its armed forces, as the country falls short of its 10% recruitment target outlined in the Defence White Paper.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari told parliament that women currently make up just 2% of the Malaysian armed forces.
However, he sees an opportunity to bridge the gap by leveraging technology, which opens doors for more women to serve in the military.
“With technological advancements, we can achieve our target. Most importantly, we want to strengthen efforts to promote women’s participation in the MAF,” Adly said.
As part of this initiative, the Defence Ministry will review the Defence White Paper this year, five years after its initial presentation, to reassess strategies for boosting female enlistment in the armed forces.
