Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra dazzles with world-class performance
Baku’s rich musical heritage takes center stage in a global showcase of culture and art
BAKU, Azerbaijan (MNTV) — The Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra delivered an extraordinary concert at the State Academic Philharmonic Hall, captivating attendees with a masterful performance.
The evening opened with a presentation by Honored Artist and musicologist, Professor Zumrud Dadashzade, who introduced the concert repertoire and provided context for the audience, Azernews reports.
Under the baton of conductor Elshad Bagirov, the orchestra accompanied acclaimed soloists Farida Mammadova (soprano) and Mahir Tagizade (baritone), delivering exceptional renditions of renowned compositions.
The program included works by celebrated Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev, such as a suite from the ballet The Path of Thunder, Albanian Rhapsody, Roxana’s Arioso, and the duet Cyrano and Roxana from the musical The Furious Gascon.
The event drew significant public interest, underscoring the enduring legacy of Azerbaijan’s classical music tradition and its global appeal.
Founded in 1964 by Azerbaijani composers Fikrat Amirov and Gara Garayev, the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra has been a cornerstone of the country’s cultural landscape, promoting its rich musical traditions internationally.
Over the decades, the orchestra has collaborated with renowned conductors from around the world, including Salim Akcil (Türkiye), Hakan Şensoy (Türkiye), Simon Camartin (Sweden), Fabien Theerikson (France), Vladimir Runchak (Ukraine), Riccardo Averbakh (USA), Vladislav Bulakhov (Russia), Roland Freisitzer (Austria), and Alexander Ivashkin (UK).
In 2007, the orchestra received the prestigious Khumay National Prize in recognition of its outstanding contributions to Azerbaijani classical music and its role in fostering cultural exchange on a global scale.
