Syrian forces gain control of Lebanese border following clashes with Hezbollah
The Syrian army has regained control of key areas along the Lebanese border following clashes with Hezbollah.
Syrian border security forces launched a large-scale military operation in the governorate of Homs to enhance security along the Syrian-Lebanese border.
The operation was launched in Qusayr, a town in the Homs countryside known for smuggling activities and the presence of armed groups.
Military sources said the operation aimed to dismantle drug and arms smuggling networks and drive out remaining Hezbollah fighters from the area.
Two Hezbollah members were reportedly taken into custody, while several others were killed in the nearly weeklong fighting before Syrian forces secured the area.
