Mexico accuses US of violating immigrants’ rights
Mexico says it has evidence of human rights violations by U.S. authorities against deported immigrants.
President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed two cases of abuses, one involving a Guatemalan woman and the other a Mexican national.
Sheinbaum said Mexico interviews returnees to check for violations.
Most deported individuals are Mexican, but some foreign nationals also are arriving.
Sheinbaum vowed to protect them and confirmed Mexico’s Foreign Ministry is filing a legal complaint against the U.S.
The ministry has also lodged a complaint with U.S. Customs and Border Protection for an investigation.
President Donald Trump’s mass deportation policies have drawn criticism from Latin American leaders.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has threatened a trade war with the U.S. over alleged mistreatment of Colombian deportees.
