Trump plans migrant detention at Guantanamo Bay
President Donald Trump has ordered the establishment of a 30,000-person migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the move would help detain what he described as “the worst criminal illegal aliens” and prevent them from returning.
A presidential memo directs Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to expand the Migrant Operations Center at the naval base.
The White House says the plan aims to stop illegal migration, dismantle cartels, and protect national sovereignty.
Guantanamo Bay, known for housing terror suspects post-Sept. 11, 2001, currently holds 15 detainees.
Under former President Joe Biden, 11 were transferred to Oman, but his promise to close the facility was never fulfilled.
Trump border czar Tom Homan told reporters Immigration and Customs Enforcement would manage the migrant facility.
Homan said they could fly “the worst of the worst, the significant public safety threats” there.
