Oman ranked most affordable country in Gulf in 2025 ranking
Benefits of a stable economy, Oman provides best living standards, healthcare, low pollution, and safety, with best affordable cost in GCC countries, and fourth globally
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) – Oman has been named the most cost-effective country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), according to Numbeo’s 2025 ‘World Cost of Living Index’, as reported in Times of Oman.
The index, which benchmarks New York City at 100 points, evaluates rental prices, grocery costs, dining expenses, and local purchasing power.
Oman ranks 93rd globally out of 139 countries, with a Cost of Living Index of 39.8, positioning it as the most affordable option in the GCC.
Oman surpasses its GCC peers in affordability. Kuwait ranks 62nd globally (40.4), Saudi Arabia 56th (41.9), Qatar 44th (47.5), and Bahrain 41st (48.3). The UAE remains the priciest in the region, ranking 31st with an index of 54.1.
Despite its affordability within the GCC, Oman trails some regional counterparts globally due to factors like purchasing power and economic positioning.
Numbeo’s report highlights Oman’s cost advantages. A one-bedroom apartment costs around US$476 in city centers and US$336 outside. Dining at an inexpensive restaurant averages US$5.61, while a liter of gasoline costs only US$0.62.
The country’s strong purchasing power ensures residents enjoy a high standard of living at lower costs compared to its neighbors.
Beyond affordability, Oman ranks highly for quality of life. A 2024 Numbeo report placed it fourth globally, ahead of most GCC nations, citing safety, low pollution, excellent healthcare, and a favorable climate.
The world’s most affordable countries include Pakistan, Libya, Egypt, India, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Russia, and Paraguay.
In contrast, the most expensive nations are Switzerland, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Iceland, the Bahamas, Singapore, Hong Kong, Barbados, Norway, Papua New Guinea, and Denmark.
Oman’s balance of affordability and quality of life continues to attract individuals and families looking for a cost-effective and comfortable lifestyle in the region.
