Mysterious illness grips border village in Indian-administered Kashmir
A mysterious illness has killed 17 people in a remote village in Indian-held Kashmir over the past month.
The disease is leaving authorities scrambling for answers.
One family has lost eight members, including six children.
The village is situated close to Line of Control, dividing Kashmir into Indian- and Pakistani-administered regions.
A high-level team from Indian health and security officials has arrived in the village to investigate.
The team is also probing a possible criminal conspiracy.
Experts from India’s top medical institutions, including the Indian Institute of Virology, Pune, and PGI Chandigarh, are examining samples.
The village’s water spring, “Bawli,” has been sealed after tests revealed the presence of pesticides.
Authorities are working to ensure villagers do not consume the contaminated water.
