CIA analyst Asif Rahman accused of leaking Israeli plans to strike Iran
CIA analyst Asif William Rahman has been accused of leaking classified documents that forced Israel to postpone a planned military strike on Iran.
These documents, detailed with satellite imagery and specifics on potential missile and aircraft deployments, were meant to be top secret.
Charged under the Espionage Act, the 34-year-old faces allegations regarding the leak which occurred in October.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Ivan Davis opted for home detention and GPS monitoring over jail, pending Rahman’s trial.
This decision is under appeal.
Rahman is a Yale graduate and former Morgan Stanley broker.
He was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia where he had been posted in the U.S. Embassy.
The motivations behind Rahman’s actions remain unknown.
Prosecutors made no claims that Rahman was working with a foreign government.
The Intercept reports that Rahman has been involved in social justice from an early age.
