Somalia urges Germany against ‘forced’ deportation of its nationals
Somalia on Wednesday urged Germany to end the “forced” deportation of Somalis.
Visiting Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin to discuss cooperation on the deportation of migrants from the East African nation.
Approximately 65,000 Somalis live in Germany.
Somali government spokesman Farhan Mohamed Jimale posted on X that Mohamud told Scholz there is no need for forced repatriation of Somalis living in Germany.
Mohamud said doors are open for Somali individuals who no longer hold the right to asylum, and have exhausted all their options and wish to return to Somalia voluntarily.
The leaders also discussed strengthening relations between the two countries revitalizing vocational training, bolstering security, and expanding cooperation.
