Indian company cuts 50% power supply to Bangladesh
India’s Adani Group has halved its electricity supply to Bangladesh.
This reduction comes as Bangladesh grapples with power shortages, prompting efforts to bridge the gap by activating additional power plants, according to Rezaul Karim, chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board.
The Godda coal-fired power plant in the Indian province of Jharkhand, which typically fulfills 7 to 10 percent of Bangladesh’s 13 GW baseload demand, was commissioned last year as part of a $2 billion investment.
Amidst a political crisis and economic challenges, the new Bangladeshi leadership faces difficulties securing the necessary funds for energy payments, following the upheaval that ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a student-led revolution last August.
