Iran slams Germany’s decision to close its consulates
TEHRAN, Iran (AA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has slammed Germany’s decision to close the Iranian consulates.
In a statement on X, Araghchi said the German decision to close Iranian consulates constitute a “sanction” against Iranians residing in Germany.
On Thursday, the German Foreign Ministry had ordered Iran’s consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich to be closed in response to the execution of a German-Iranian dual citizen by Tehran.
Araghchi accused the German government of backing the perpetrator of a terrorist attack that left 14 people dead in Iranian Shiraz city on April 2018.
According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, the Iranian Foreign Ministry also summoned the German charge d’affaires over Germany’s decision to close the Iranian consulates.
On Monday, the Iranian authorities had executed German-Iranian dual citizen Jamshid Sharmahd over charges of committing terrorist acts in the country.
