Pakistan’s ex-premier Khan complains of mistreatment in jail, government denies
Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused jail authorities of mistreatment, claiming he is being treated “worse than animals.”
Khan said he was tortured by being confined in a cage, where electricity to his cell was shut off for five days, “leaving me in complete darkness”.
He also alleged he was confined to the cell for 10 days and that for several weeks, visits by family members, doctors, or lawyers were blocked.
He was speaking to reporters and his lawyers in a makeshift courtroom inside Adiala Jail in the city of Rawalpindi, according to a statement posted on his X account run by his party from abroad.
The government and jail authorities have rejected the complaints, claiming the ex-premier is being provided “all facilities”
The former cricket star had been ousted from power through a “no-confidence” vote in April 2022, slightly over a year before completion of his five-year tenure.
He has claimed all charges against him are politically motivated.
