US sanctions Palestinian charity for allegedly funding terrorism
The U.S. has sanctioned a Palestinian charity, claiming that it funds terrorism.
It has labeled the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network a “sham charity”, alleging that it funnels funds to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
The U.S. Treasury, in collaboration with Canada, said Samidoun operates as a key international fundraiser for the PFLP.
Treasury’s Acting Under Secretary Bradley Smith said groups like Samidoun misrepresent themselves as humanitarian organizations, diverting critical funds to support terrorism.
Canada has also listed Samidoun as a terrorist entity.
The PFLP, which has also taken part in the fight against Israel in Gaza, was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US in October 1997 and October 2001, respectively.
