Global leaders call for cease-fire in Gaza as frustration grows over Israeli conduct
Israel and the US faced the ire of world leaders during a heated UN General Assembly session, the first major gathering since Israel began its war on Gaza nearly a year ago.
Many leaders criticized Israel’s retaliatory measures since October 7.
They say its war on Gaza has exceeded the bounds of self-defense.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva called Israel’s actions collective punishment of Palestinians, and stressed that it has become a humanitarian catastrophe.
Although the criticism was especially pointed towards Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was also directed at the perceived complicity of the United States in Israel’s ongoing war.
The world leaders’ urgent call for an end to hostilities came amidst growing concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as well as increasing violence along the Israel-Lebanon border.
