Jewish filmmaker Friedland hailed for Palestinian solidarity at Venice Film Festival
Jewish American director Sarah Friedland is being widely praised for her bold stance in support of Palestinians during her acceptance speech at last week’s Venice Film Festival.
Friedland, who won the prestigious Luigi De Laurentiis award for best first film, used her moment on stage to condemn Israel’s war on Gaza.
She referred to the “336th day of Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the 76th year of occupation,” urging filmmakers to use their platforms to address Israel’s impunity.
Friedland’s remarks were met with applause, as well as widespread support on social media, with many praising her courage and expressing interest in her award-winning film, “Familiar Touch.”
