GOP activist suing over racist slur and bribery attempt
A Republican activist is suing Americans for Prosperity over allegations of racial discrimination and bribery.
The group is backed by billionaire Charles Koch.
Carl Baxter is a Black Trump supporter from Fort Myers, Florida.
Baxter is also the president of the Republican Club of North and East Fort Myers.
He claims that during a canvassing operation, a staffer called him “a slave” in a derogatory manner.
The staffer allegedly made several inappropriate comments about his work, referencing slavery sarcastically.
Baxter also accuses an Americans for Prosperity member of attempting to bribe him with $500 to provide damaging information on a city council member.
He says he refused to provide the information.
The controversy has led to backlash, with some local Republicans distancing themselves from the group.
The group has yet to comment on the allegations.
