Emmy nomination for Palestinian journalist upheld
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has upheld the Emmy nomination of Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda.
This is despite intense pressure from pro-Israel group Creative Community for Peace (CCFP).
Owda, who is from Gaza, was nominated for her poignant documentary “It’s Bisan From Gaza and I’m Still Alive,” which highlights life in Gaza amid Israeli attacks.
The CCFP had called for Owda’s disqualification, alleging her involvement with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and antisemitic content.
Academy President Adam Sharp confirmed there was no evidence of Owda’s recent ties to the liberation group, though she had previously spoken at related events.
Sharp defended the decision, emphasizing the academy’s commitment to showcasing diverse journalistic perspectives.
NATAS is an American professional service organization founded in 1955 for “the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership.”
