Hillary Clinton backs Kamala Harris, criticizes Trump at DNC
On the opening day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech that celebrated Kamala Harris and sharply criticized former President Trump.
Clinton praised Biden as “democracy’s champion” and voiced strong support for Harris, emphasizing the historic significance of her potential presidency.
“The future is here,” Clinton declared. “On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala Harris raising her hand and taking the oath of office.” She highlighted the importance of breaking barriers for all women, stating, “When a barrier falls from one of us, it falls and clears the way for all of us.”
Clinton lauded Harris’s character, experience, and vision, noting their shared background in advocating for children. “That kind of work changes a person,” Clinton said. “Kamala carries with her the hopes of every child she protected, every family she helped, every community she served.”
In a pointed critique of Trump, Clinton contrasted his character with Harris’s, stating, “Kamala cares about kids, families, and America. Donald only cares about himself.” She also criticized Trump for his legal troubles, noting his “34 felony convictions” and the chants of “lock him up” from the audience.
Clinton drew parallels between Trump’s attacks on Harris and those he directed at her during the 2016 race, highlighting Trump’s gender-driven insults. “He’s mocking her name and her laugh. Sounds familiar,” Clinton said.
This election marks the first since 1976 without at least one member of the Bush, Clinton, or Biden families on the ballot, adding to the historic nature of the race.
Looking ahead, Clinton is set to release a new book next month titled *Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty*, just weeks before the election.
