2 teenagers charged with extreme right-wing terrorism in UK
LONDON (AA) – Two teenagers have been charged with planning terrorist acts as part of an investigation into suspected extreme right-wing terrorism activity, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Eighteen-year-old Rex William Henry Clark and 19-year-old Sofija Vinogradova were charged on August 15 with preparing terrorist acts, the police announced in a statement.
Additionally, Vinogradova faces two charges of collecting information that could aid someone in committing or preparing a terrorist act.
The police emphasized that this investigation pertains to suspected extreme right-wing terrorism and is not connected to the recent violent disorder in the UK. The recent unrest was fueled by false claims online that the suspect arrested for the fatal stabbing of three children in Southport on July 29 was a Muslim asylum seeker.
Both teenagers have been remanded in custody.
“These are extremely serious charges, but I urge the public not to speculate further about this case at this time and to allow the criminal justice process to proceed without interference,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
