Palestinian prisoner sexually abused at Sde Teiman Prison: Israeli media
JERUSALEM (AA) – A Palestinian prisoner was sexually abused by Israeli soldiers at the Sde Teiman Prison in the Negev desert in southern Israel, according to Israeli media.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN, citing a security source, said the victim was finally taken to a hospital with severe injuries to an intimate body part, which left him without the ability to walk.
According to the Israel’s Army Radio, 10 soldiers were detained for “questioning”.
Several reports have emerged of severe abuses against Palestinian detainees at the notorious facility since the start of Israel’s current war on Gaza.
Currently, Israel’s Supreme Court is considering a petition filed by Israeli human rights organizations to close the Sde Teiman prison, where Palestinian detainees from Gaza routinely face torture and medical neglect.
The Israeli army is believed to have detained thousands of Palestinians, including women, children and medics, since October 7, 2023.
In recent months, the army has released dozens of Palestinian detainees from Gaza in deteriorating health conditions, with their bodies bearing torture scars.
Israel has killed more than 39,360 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and has injured over 90,900 according to local health authorities.
Over nine months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
According to a recent study by The Lancet, the actual number of deaths as a result of the ongoing Israeli onslaught, including those gone missing or under the rubble, and those dying of malnutrition or infectious diseases, could be more than 186,000 — which is 8% of the total population of Gaza.
