White House rejects Netanyahu’s ‘useful idiots’ comment on Free Palestine demonstrators
The White House has distanced itself from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks describing Free Palestine demonstrators as “Iran’s useful idiots.”
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby called the comments “unfortunate” and inaccurate.
He emphasized that while Iran has attempted to influence and fund some protests, it is incorrect to generalize all demonstrators.
Kirby stressed that most protest activity in the US is peaceful and reflects genuine concerns, a hallmark of democratic expression.
Netanyahu made the controversial statement during a Congressional address aimed at drumming up support for his war in Gaza.
His speech highlighted a deepening divide within the Democratic Party and growing American sympathy for Palestinians, with a number of lawmakers boycotting the event.
