Illinois officer shoots unarmed Black woman in her home
A sheriff’s deputy in Springfield, Illinois, has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of an unarmed 36-year-old Black woman.
Sonya Massey had called 911 on July 6 to report a prowler.
But bodycam footage released on Monday shows Deputy Sean Grayson shooting her in her face in her home. She was unarmed.
The video has sparked nationwide outrage and calls for justice.
The case has once again highlighted the issue of racism in law enforcement.
