Trump accepts GOP nomination, calls for unity before turning to familiar rhetoric
Six days after surviving an assassination attempt, Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination at the GOP National Convention in Milwaukee.
Despite opening with calls for unity, Trump’s speech soon reverted to familiar rhetoric.
His 90-minute address, the longest in modern history, denounced undocumented immigration, what he called political “witch-hunts,” and election fraud.
Trump described the influx of undocumented immigrants as an “invasion”.
This is a claim that has been refuted by studies indicating lower crime rates among undocumented immigrants compared to native-born U.S. citizens.
Trump also accused other countries of treating America like a “dumping ground” for criminals and “insane asylum” patients.
