Ethnic Pakistani voters in UK may shift away from Labour over Gaza policy: poll
As the UK approaches the 2024 general election, a recent YouGov poll highlights voting trends among ethnic minority groups, particularly British Pakistanis.
While traditionally leaning toward Labour, recent findings show a noticeable shift.
While 53% of ethnic minority voters support Labour, a considerable number of British Pakistanis are turning to the Green Party, citing issues such as the Israeli assault on Gaza.
Labour leader Keir Starmer’s stance on Gaza appears to have engendered this shift, with only 28% of Pakistani and Bangladeshi Britons viewing him favorably.
Among those supporting the Green Party, 51% prioritize Gaza as a top issue.
This divergence suggests Labour risks losing support from voters deeply concerned about Gaza.
In the July 4 elections, several British-Pakistani and Kashmiri-origin candidates are competing in key constituencies, signaling the community’s growing political engagement.
