Poor people’s campaign mobilizes low-wage voters in Washington, DC, rally
Thousands of low-wage workers gathered in Washington, DC, on Saturday.
They were demanding more attention be given to issues relating to poverty, and claimed to have mobilized 15 million low-income voters for the upcoming election.
The Mass Poor People’s and Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington, DC, and to the Polls was hosted by the Poor People’s Campaign.
It hopes to pressure politicians to embrace a 17-point agenda that prioritizes the well-being of the poor and working class over funding for war and militarism.
Organizer Bishop William J. Barber II emphasized the voting potential of the poor as they constitute 30% of the electorate and are crucial in swing states.
Barber demanded political attention to their concerns, including economic justice, health care, and environmental protection.
It plans to engage infrequent voters and deliver demands to major news networks and political conventions.
