French man sentenced to 12 months in prison for racist graffiti on mosque facade
A French court in the city of Beauvais has sentenced a man to 12 months in prison for painting racist graffiti on the facade of a local mosque.
French press reported that the man had written racist messages on the Hamza mosque and a shop’s wall.
Beauvais prosecutor Frederic Trinh said the perpetrator was also barred from possessing weapons.
In December, he also wrote “monkey” in red on the wall of the Hamza mosque.
Beauvais Mayor Franck Pia has expressed support for the city’s Muslim community and condemned the act as contrary to French values.
