House passes bill targeting International Criminal Court over Israel PM arrest warrants
The House has approved a bill to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) over arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.
The vote was 247-155.
The court’s prosecutor has sought arrest warrants for the Israeli PM on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel has killed more than 35,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza, in the past eight months.
House Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul says the ICC had “overstepped its authority.”
However, the Biden administration opposes the measure, suggesting more effective ways to support Israel.
Some Democrats backed the bill despite concerns about its chances for success in the Senate.
