Uyghur brothers shot dead in Xinjiang prison
A security guard at Qarabughra Prison in occupied Eastern Turkestan in northwest China fatally shot two Uyghur brothers.
The killings of 35-year-old Sidikjan Ablikim and 33-year-old Ablehet Ablikim occurred during a confrontation in a vegetable field where the brothers were working.
Chinese police and prison officials claim the guard intervened when one brother was grabbed, leading to a physical altercation.
They say another inmate also got involved before the guard fired, killing both brothers.
The reason for their arrest and the duration of their sentences remain unclear.
Qarabughra Prison has expanded to house Uyghur detainees as China cracks down on what it claims is terrorism and religious extremism, specifically targeting Uyghurs.
Details surrounding the incident remain restricted.
Authorities declined to comment, citing confidentiality.
Human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch, have described the Chinese government’s treatment of Uyghurs as genocide under international law.
