Police remove Free Palestine sit-in at University of Michigan
Police removed a Free Palestine peaceful sit-in on the University of Michigan campus on Tuesday.
University President Santa Ono said the activists refused to comply with a request to remove fire hazards, which he said “forced the university to take action.”
Student prosecutors were demanding the school divest from Israel and end attacks in Gaza.
The peaceful sit-in was set up in late April.
Free Palestine students at New York’s Columbia University started a sit-in in the campus garden in April to protest the school’s financial investments in companies that support Israel’s attacks and occupation of Gaza.
More than 100 protesters were detained during demonstrations at the school fueling tensions.
Nearly 3,000 protesters were arrested after demonstrations spread to universities across the country.
The US protests took a global turn, quickly spreading to universities in Europe and worldwide.
