Modi’s ‘inner circle’ implicated in murder plots abroad
A Washington Post investigation has found that during last year’s visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to US President Joe Biden, an assassination plot was being hatched on US soil.
Indian intelligence officer Vikram Yadav allegedly coordinated a hit on Sikh activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Yadav’s involvement indicates a direct link to India’s external spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Investigations implicate higher-ranking RAW officials, including then-chief Samant Goel.
The Post reports that US intelligence agencies have assessed that Goel approved the operation targeting Pannun.
A former senior Indian security official told the newspaper that Goel was under extreme pressure to eliminate the alleged threat of Sikh extremists overseas.
Observers say this revelation, based on interviews with numerous officials across several countries, sheds light on RAW’s aggressive global tactics.
It also raises questions about the extent of India’s involvement in overseas operations.
