Nicaragua tells ICJ Germany is facilitating Israel’s genocide in Gaza
The International Court of Justice has begun two days of hearings concerning Nicaragua’s plea for emergency measures against Germany.
Nicaragua accuses Germany of violating international law through its support of Israel’s war on Gaza.
This is by aiding Israel militarily, and by defunding the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees or UNRWA, thereby facilitating genocide.
Nicaragua’s legal representatives argue that Germany’s actions breach the 1948 Genocide Convention and the 1949 Geneva Conventions, under which countries not only agree not to commit genocide but also to prevent and punish any possible genocide.
Germany is one of the largest arms exporters to Israel together with the United States, according to UN experts.
In January, in a case brought by South Africa, the court ordered Israel to prevent acts of genocide in its war on Gaza.
