Human rights groups urge US to halt arms transfers to Israel
Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Oxfam have called for an immediate halt to U.S. arms transfers to Israel due to its violations of international humanitarian law.
The organizations submitted a joint report to the U.S. government, citing instances of Israel’s misuse of U.S. weapons and obstruction of U.S.-funded humanitarian aid.
Examples include the use of white phosphorus, attacks on hospitals and ambulances, and the systematic blocking of assistance.
HRW’s Washington director Sarah Yager emphasized the necessity of upholding U.S. legal standards.
Oxfam America’s associate director Scott Paul urged the Biden administration to end lethal arms sales to Israel to prevent further casualties in Gaza.
Amid global criticism, the U.S. continues to provide substantial military aid to Israel, prompting calls for stricter adherence to international and American law.
