10% of Gaza journalists killed by Israel: Palestinian syndicate
RABAT, Morocco (AA) – The Israeli army has killed 10% of all journalists in the Gaza Strip to prevent them from conveying the truth about what is happening in the enclave to the world, according to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
“The death toll of journalists has risen to 120, meaning that 10% of journalists have been killed, considering that the syndicate has about 1,300 journalists,” Nasser Abu Bakr, the head of the Palestinian journalists group, said during a seminar held in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, organized by the National Union of Moroccan Journalists.
“The occupation (Israeli) forces, accustomed to killing in the dark, are trying to persist in deception and only convey their narrative regarding the war in Gaza,” he added.
He stressed that “Palestinian journalists are working under difficult conditions as they cover the most gruesome massacre in the history of media.”
Abu Bakr said lawyers from London and he are preparing to submit a file detailing Israeli crimes against journalists to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Since October 7, the Israeli offensive into Gaza has killed more than 28,000 people and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities, creating unspeakable suffering for the Palestinians.
The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85% of the territory’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the ICJ, which in an interim ruling this January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
However, Israel’s actions reflect utter disregard of the ICJ ruling.
