Gaza ‘part’ of Palestine, any attempt to separate it unacceptable: Abbas
Jerusalem, Undefined – AFP
Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas said on Friday Gaza was an “integral part” of the Palestinian state.
During talks with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who visited Abbas’s West Bank headquarters, “the president underscored that separation or any attempt to isolate any part of it is unacceptable”, according to a statement by his office.
Meanwhile, Times of Israel reported that Sullivan reiterated the US’s stance that the Palestinian Authority should be responsible for governing Gaza at the end of Israel’s war with Hamas, but acknowledged that it would need to undergo significant changes to be fit to do so.
“We do believe that the Palestinian Authority needs to be revamped and revitalized, needs to be updated in terms of its method of governance, its representation of Palestinian people,” he said.
