Israeli troops ‘mistakenly’ kill three people held by Hamas
Jerusalem, Undefined – AFP
The Israeli army said its troops shot and killed three people held by Hamas on Friday after erroneously believing they posed a danger.
During combat in the Gaza city neighbourhood of Shejaiya, troops “mistakenly identified three Israeli hostages as a threat. As a result, the troops fired toward them and they were killed,” the military said in a statement.
“Immediate lessons from the event have been learned,” it added.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “an unbearable tragedy.”
