Palestinian detainee dies in Megiddo prison, Israel refuses to provide details
JERUSALEM (AA) – A Palestinian detainee has died at the Megiddo prison in northern Israel, the Israeli prison authorities have declared.
In a statement, the Israeli Prison Service said the 33-year-old detainee, from the West Bank died after “feeling unwell.”
The statement, however, did not provide any further details
There are more than 7,000 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, according to estimates released by prisoners’ affairs groups.
Tension has been running high across the Palestinian territories amid an Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip. Increasing instances of violence by illegal Israeli settlers as well as frequent Israeli raids and arbitrary detentions have been reported in the West Bank since October 12.
Israel has killed more than 11,100 Palestinians, including more than 8,000 children and women, in Israeli air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since last month, the government media office in Gaza said. It does not include the people who died because of not getting treatment in hospitals because of Israeli strikes on and around hospitals.
