‘Yet another war crime committed by the Israeli army’: Human Rights Watch on Gaza hospital attack
– LONDON (AA) – A Human Rights Watch (HRW) official has said that the bombing of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza is “yet another war crime committed by the Israeli army, in a list that keeps getting longer, and longer, and longer.”
“When will Western powers open their eyes and pressure their ally to stop this bloodbath?” Ahmed Benchemsi, MENA Communications director for HRW, said to the media.
More than 500 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the hospital late Tuesday, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra reported.
It comes on day 11 in the war on Gaza, with a growing international chorus of non-governmental groups and world leaders saying the Israeli bombing campaign on the besieged Gaza Strip — including health care facilities, homes, and houses of worship — violates international law and may constitute a war crime.
The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, called the targeting of the hospital an act of “genocide.”
