Families of British diplomats leaving Israel as a ‘precautionary measure’: says UK Foreign Office
LONDON (AA) – The families of British diplomats are departing Israel as a “precautionary measure,” the UK Foreign Office has said.
The embassy would remain open and continue to offer consular services to those in need, it added.
In a dramatic escalation of Mideast tensions, Israeli forces have launched a sustained and forceful military campaign against the Gaza Strip, a response to Hamas’ Operation Al Aqsa Flood, which according to the resistance group was in retaliation for the repeated storming of the sacred Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and Israeli settlers’ growing violence against Palestinians.
The Israeli military has launched a disproportionately huge Operation Swords of Iron against the Gaza Strip, which has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that has reeled under a crippling siege since 2007.
