British activist claims deportation from Poland at behest of France
Rabbani claims that France shared information about him with Poland, which led to his deportation
LONDON – A representative of the civil rights group Cage claimed that he was deported from Poland under pressure from the French government.
Muhammad Rabbani, the director of U.K. chapter of Cage, said the move came after he criticized France for Islamophobia.
Rabbani, who is known for championing the rights of those affected by the “war on terror”,” was scheduled to give a speech at a security conference in Warsaw.
Rabbani claims that France shared information about him with Poland, which led to his deportation.
He was banned from entering France in early July because of his criticism of the Macron government.
During his trip to Poland, he planned to attend a conference of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
At Warsaw airport, Polish authorities produced documents indicating that Rabbani was to be denied entry to EU countries based on a Schengen information system.
He believes France is trying to draw international attention to the alleged mistreatment of Muslims but asserts that Cage will continue to voice his concerns.
Rabbani also indicated that legal action would be taken against the ban.
A French Interior Ministry document in October had cited possible risks to public order and national security as reasons for banning Rabbani.
