Massachusetts court sentences woman for racist attack
BOSTON, Massachusetts – A Massachusetts court has sentenced 68-year-old Joan DiTomaso to six months’ probation for attacking a Muslim Melrose City councilor.
She had attacked Jamaleddine at a gas station in Melrose last year in December.
Prosecutors say DiTomaso also called Jamaleddine a “terrorist Arab” and told her to “go back to her country.”
When Jamaleddine’s husband heard the commotion, DiTomaso pushed him twice.
DiTomaso’s lawyer said she was only trying to take a video of Jamaleddine’s license plate because Jamaleddine’s husband had just done the same thing to her car.
Jamaleddine said the encounter haunted her family every day, including her children, who witnessed the incident.
