Annual convention unites Muslims from across Minnesota
Two-day event included lectures, workshops, a Quran competition, an event for Muslim singles and a multicultural bazaar
SAINT PAUL, Minnesota – Thousands of Muslims gathered Saturday for the annual Minnesota Muslim Convention in Minneapolis.
The convention, which has been held annually for 18 years, draws attendees from across the state and beyond.
This year’s event drew more than 8,000 attendees.
The convention offered a wide-ranging program of lectures, workshops, and panel discussions on a variety of topics relevant to Muslims living in the United States.
It is the largest and most diverse Congress in the five-state region, with participants of all ages, backgrounds and interests coming together to learn, connect and grow.
The two-day event included lectures, workshops, a Quran competition, an event for Muslim singles and a multicultural bazaar.
Muslims were also able to learn about new opportunities and businesses and connect with other Muslims from all walks of life.
Many young people said the congress inspired them and made them realize the unity of the Muslim community.
Some of the 68 speakers spoke about living with faith.
A multicultural bazaar offered items ranging from henna to furniture imported from Turkey to modest sportswear.
Other booths informed attendees about opportunities such as culturally relevant children’s books or Islamic financing companies that offer interest-free mortgages in line with the Muslim faith.
According to real estate agent Fatoun Ali, the range of vendors reflected immigrants from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
