JERUSALEM, Palestine – Tensions are running high in occupied East Jerusalem as Jewish settlers continued their incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex on Thursday.
The raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, which is under Israeli occupation, are intensifying in the lead-up to the Jewish religious New Year, known as ‘Rosh Hashanah.’
In the early morning hours, fanatic Jewish settlers gathered at the Western Wall, and conducted a raid by entering through the Morocco Gate located to the west of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
During the raids carried out with the presence of Israeli police, in addition to settlers who walked barefoot in the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, there were also settlers observed performing various religious rituals.
Today’s raids also included the fanatic Jewish Rabbi Eliyahu Weber, who frequently participates in such incursions and encourages settlers in this regard.
After the raid, the settlers who emerged from the Al-Aqsa Mosque continued to sing in the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem, accompanied by the police.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque and the endowments in Jerusalem are under the guardianship of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Administration, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Waqf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, in accordance with the status quo adopted in the peace agreement between Israel and Jordan on October 26, 1994.
However, since 2003, Jews have been entering the holy sanctuary with Israeli police escort without the permission of the administration. The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Administration, referring to these entries as incursions, emphasizes the violation of Muslim sovereignty and the breach of the historical status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
