Trump’s adviser meets with Muslims in Michigan
Flynn is right-wing conservative who has made anti-Muslim statements in past
HAMTRAMCK, Michigan – Michael Flynn, former President Donald Trump’s national security adviser, met with about 35 Muslims in Hamtramck, Michigan.
The meeting was organized by Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib.
Flynn is a right-wing conservative who has been associated with the QAnon movement and has made anti-Muslim statements in the past.
He was also questioned by the Congressional Select Committee on Jan. 6 about his role in the mob attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Critics of Ghalib’s meeting with Flynn say it is a sign that he is becoming more aligned with the Republican Party and willing to align himself with dangerous individuals.
Ghalib himself says he is not a “supporter of either the Democrats or the Republicans” and is merely trying to build bridges with different groups.
Flynn was Trump’s National Security Adviser for only a few weeks — before he was fired by Trump for lying to Vice President Pence in connection with the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
The former Army general was then convicted of lying about his contacts with Russia on the website FBI.
Trump later pardoned Flynn before he could be sentenced in court.
Although Ghalib says he is not a “supporter of Democrats or Republicans,” he accepted a $7,880 donation from a political action committee close to Democrats while running for mayor (PAC).
